Caleca Diamonds 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4

Lovely, durable dish ware
I've had these Caleca Diamonds dinnerware for several years now. They're microwave safe, have held up well in the dishwasher, and look lovely. I use them daily and they seem chip-resistant because I'm not that careful with them, but haven't chipped one yet. Also, they are not showing scratch marks either. The only complaint I have, which is minor, is the handles on the mugs do get very hot if I microwave a beverage for 50 seconds in a 1200 watt microwave; I have other mugs whose handles don't get as hot. Happy With Purchase
Firstly, I was surprised and happy that the item was still available. The ordering was easy and the delivery made faster than expected. Packing was great, nothing broken and order complete, as represented.

Caleca Girasole 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4

The best dinnerware around bar none!
I can only give this Italian stoneware/ceramic the highest praise ... Not only is it beautiful - it's sturdy, chipresistant(!), microwave resistant, and dishwasher safe. It's not at all like any Italian stoneware i've bought in the past which easily chipped, and got hot and "crackled"/crazed in the microwave, dishwasher etc... I liked it so much i bought the pasta bowl set, a 2nd service for 4 of the dinnerware and also a set for friends for Xmas. I highly recommend it! My friends loved it too and decided to buy a set of the Caleca Bluemoon to mix and match with. They are sold on it! What can i say...it's a beautiful, "artiginale" italian product ...Viva Italia!

Durability and beauty are a winning combination
Lucky for us we received a beutiful pasta serving dish and 4 pasta bowls 10 years ago as a wedding gift. We use the bowls on a daily basis and they look like new! My everyday dishes from Ph*****gr*** which I got at the same time look terrible and need replacing. I couldn't believe this pattern was still available. You'll love it.

Caleca Girasole Italian handpainted dinnerware
I bought two place settings of the Girasole for intimate Sunday brunches. 13 years later, and I still love it. It is wonderfully cheery with a rustic elegance, and holds up splendidly, even with children handling it. Our family has grown, and I had planned to order more settings from the Caleca website today, but found the cost was very high -- almost double the Amazon offer! The Caleca order form's international shipping options did not include the U.S. (Stati Uniti) so they may not ship here. Grab it now while you can!

Caleca Arabesco 5-Piece Pasta Serving Set, Service for 4

Pretty and Functional
I'd bought the set of plates along with these pasta bowls, in the hopes that I can use this design as my main set of dishes, and I have a thing for everything matching. I wasn't quite sure if they were going to be big enough. I wasn't too concerned about the serving bowl, since that looked like it would be able to hold a fair amount of pasta, but the plates looked to be the size of a salad plate or thereabouts and I couldn't quite tell how much depth it had to it, and my husband eats a fair amount.

So, the upshot of the matter is, it's a perfect fit for our pasta needs for each serving. I think everyone should have pasta bowls for serving pasta since plates are too flat and actual bowls are too deep. This managed to accomodate a husband serving of pasta whilst holding in the sauce at a relatively flat level. The amount of pasta that can fit on this is ideal. I use it for a lot of other things besides pasta as well. Unless you're having a large meal of steak and sides, this...

Caleca Marina 5-Piece Dinnerware Place Setting, Service for 1

Beautiful dishes
The Caleca is beautiful as always, and Marina is probably the prettiest pattern. It's durable and formal or casual. Great for Tuesday night dinner with the family or an evening with friends. Great service from amazon...I hope they're able to carry more of it in the future!

Caleca Marina 5-Piece Pasta Serving Set, Service for 4

Celeca Pasta Set
My only criticsim of this beautiful set would be the sizes of the four smaller bowls. They seemed a bit too small for pasta bowls. I was comparing them to the size of the set I had purchased at Williams-Sonoma for myself a few years ago. The WS bowls are more shallow and wider. The recipient of the pasta set loved it, however and that was my goal.

Outrageous!
I have added these cups, plates and bowls to my will so they will have a future after I leave this planet. Sometimes when it's very quiet in the house I can hear them singing to each other and to my set of bowls I bought at the same time.

So Fancy!
Order received without any damage and quickly. I love using the set. As mentioned previously, the bowls are shallow and best for pasta or salad in my opinion. I had to buy cereal bowls which was fine. Color and design are fresh and would go nicely with many decor themes.

Bunn 6100 Easy Pour Replacement Decanter, Black

get glass
i have a commercial bunn in my home and i work on them as a tech. the plastic and metal will separate over time and leak. don't believe me? just get a few and you will find out....

Expensive- Short lifespan
Dishwasher safe yet not for use with "Rinse Aid"... For the home user this makes for "Not really dishwasher safe" or at least it does for me. So I have used this pot every day for about a month and it has started a slow leak at the seam between the steel and plastic. This is the second Bunn plastic/steel decanter I have bought that leaks in this way. Poor design I guess.

So here is the deal. I am very unhappy with this pot and another just like it. If two out of two do this for me in less than a year, chances are they will all leak under the same conditions. I personally prefer the long life of the glass decanter over the this plastic junk. I am sure I could get replacement but I am just sick of the effort.
This purchase was depressing.

Not What I Expected, My Mistake
I recently purchased the BUNN 13300.001 VP17 coffee brewer. It is a stainless steel unit of commercial quality. It is all stainless steel with the exception of its hatch cover and funnel. I hated the plastic materials used in the other coffeemakers I've had in the past. I purchased this pot because it was the one shown in the coffee brewer's illustration. The stainless steel bottom shown in the illustration looked really neat, but the pot itself is plastic, not glass. Unfortunately, I did not read its description and customer reviews carefully enough and purchased it. I later purchased the glass pot and use the plastic one as a spare or for extra guests. It just did not make any sense to me to buy an all stainless machine to escape that plastic taste and then have the hot coffee drip into a plastic pot. Therefore, I personally do not like this pot. I am sure the plastic pot is convenient for some to avoid breaking glass pots if you are prone to do so. A couple of reviewers...

Extech RF40 Battery Acid and Engine Coolant Refractometer

Highly Recommended
I work as a custodian for a public school system. The new building has a chiller system for cool air. I need to be able to monitor the glycol concentration for proper operation. The Extech RF40 comes with excellent instructions and is easy to calibrate and use. All this at what I feel is a very fair price.

A GREAT tool!!
As an RV tech, I use this tool to check the specific gravity of the house and chassis batteries on any RV that I am working on. Much more accurate than just using a DC Volt meter or hydrometer. Easy and quick to use. I can check all of the cells in just a few minutes. Highly recommended to anyone who deals with lead-acid batteries on a regular basis!

Convenience and Accuracy
Bought for use at my off-grid solar powered vacation home.

Much easier to take and record accurate specific gravity readings on my batteries. With this easy to use tool I'll be more diligent about watching out for my batteries' health.

Recommended.

Fit & Fresh CleanTek Power Mixer Pro Shaker Cup

Excellent mixer
This is my first mixer, ever. I can't compare it to anything, but I can say that it blends my powders well.
I had some confusion with the cleaning(no instructions), and when it stopped working I got the top portion open and there lay the instructions! I got it working again and it does a good job of blending smaller portions(~20 oz.) If you fill it all the way or almost, the plastic stirrers will have a hard time of mixing it.

Works to an extent
I have a blender that is very large, high power and is a pain to clean. Logically, it did not make sense to use my huge blender on a daily basis for 8 oz worth of liquid mixed with spirulina and chlorella (sometimes soy protein). Chlorella is fairly easy to mix, however spirulina is not; neither is the soy protein if I add it. The mixer pro does a fair job of mixing the spirulina, there is still little balls but it is much better than stirring with a spoon. With a spoon the spirulina sticks to the spoon and floats on the top; whereas, with the mixer the spirulina may stick to the sides a little and as I mentioned previously has a few little balls. Nonetheless, I am surprised that this product needs 6 AAA batteries, since it is not that powerful. Buying a cordless mixer is cheaper than replacing the batteries but I want to start adding spinach back to my smoothies so I am probably going to buy a single serve blender that I can travel with. For those of you who are looking into...

6 AAA Batteries!!!
I thought that 6 AAA batteries would give this blender some power. I suggest that you get a regular cup shaker and stick a spoon in it. The plastic wand is not very strong and you will not get anything mixed any different than if you shook the cotainer real hard. I would send it back but the cup size is a good size. My protein shake was not blended well. I had to get a spoon and shake it even after using the blender wand. It will not work if you have crushed ice in it. This product did not meet advertised expectations. Also, since batteries do not last long, I would have gone through alot of batteries to mix my shakes. This would eventually be an expensive shake.

Extech RF20 0 Parts per Thousand to 100 Parts per Thousand Automatic Temperature Compensation Salinity Refractometer

Excellent choice
I'm using this unit to measure the salinity in my fish tank and for the first time I really know the real value of this important parameter. At first I was using a regular plastic hydrometer and was trusting the results I was getting, but then I bought a second hydrometer and the readings were totally different from the first one. That's when I realized that I needed more precision, and this unit is of course more expensive, but the accuracy you get is worth the extra money. It turned out that the salinity in my tank was way too high and was the reason for several problems I was having with the aquarium. The unit it's extremely easy to calibrate , all you need is destilled water and 10 seconds of your time, and is also very easy to use.

Dishonest seller -- NOT Extech RF20 refractor
I searched and searched looking for upscale instrument and thought this would fit the bill. I thought I was buying an very good quality refractometer judging by the reviews. I did not even bother to try it as it is no better than one for half the price. The package insert says nothing about were it is made, what firm made it, address, email, contact, anything. Save your money. You get the impression you are getting a higher quality instrument, but this is just a chintzy product with a case, like you would get buying a tool at Harbor Freight. Arrive poorly packaged for mailing too. Way over priced. Returning.
UPDATE: As I suspected: This is a Chinese knock-off. Below is the link to what you will get. It is NOT an Extech instrument. I have not heard from the seller. This hacks me off. Will ask Amazon for immediate refund.

Well built meter
It showed up out of the box calibrated and hasn't needed any adjustment. The entire unit seems solidly built, and is very easy to use.

Extech RF15 0-to-32-Percent Brix Portable Automatic Temperature Compensation Sucrose Refractometer

On the money!!!!!
I purchased this item 5-6 years ago. I use it once a year during grape harvest to take test samples of machine picked grapes and it has been accurate to .1 of a brix on every load that was tested. Taking your crop to a market that requires certain sugar standards in order to pass, this has been a highly valuable instrument and more than pays for itself after one season. Yes, I highly recommend this product, it has been extremely accurate in regards to the more expensive commercial type digital refractometers.

Great Product
Exactly as listed and in perfect condition. Does the job easily. Have a home set up and have spent a lot creating my own wine. This was an excellent price for great quality that works!

Awesome!
This thing is super easy to use, and so much better than a stupid hydrometer. Nice to be able to check SG quickly while sparging instead of waiting for samples to cool.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Saucier Pan, Cherry

Wonderful addition to your battery de cuisine
I ADORE this pan. I received one with a set from AMEX rewards....it's simply the best sauce pan I've ever used! It boils water quickly and efficiently, but also responds to heat reduction very well. I am celiac and used rice flour, arrow root and such to thicken sauces (they burn very easily). This pan works very well with them. It's thick so the heat is even; when I reduce the heat to thicken the sauce, the pan responds and I have perfectly smooth, velvety sauces every time. Another feature I love about this pan is that the rounded bottom makes stirring the sauce easy---no corners to get into. Size: very nicely sized for a variety of recipes....not too big, but not small either. (boils a dozen eggs, makes 3 cups rice, or cheese sauce for family-sized mac-n-cheese)

The recipes that come with this pan are also good. My family liked the Chili Chicken over rice. Yum!

This pan's expensive...but well made and should be the last sauce pan you ever purchase,...

Nothing like it. Save up and buy the best.
The ease of cooking and cleaning for this product are superb. Even heat distribution means no burning ever and I wouldn't have another set in my home. If you are serious about cooking, this is the only choice for perfect cooking every time.

LeCreuset Cast Iron enameled Saucier Pan
I absolutely love Le Creuset...their pans are extremely well made, and worth the money. So many of the cast iron cookware are made in China, but Le Creuset is made in France, and has been for over 50 years that I know of. I received a Le Creuset casserole in 1958 when I was first married, and it is still in very good shape after all these years. I have found that the cleaner for my glass-top stove works very well to clean any cooked on foods or stains, and it cleans up like new.

Fagor Duo Combi 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set

modern features, good service
Fagor is the least expensive brand that I am aware of which also has the 'modern' features desirable in pressure cookers. To learn more about pressure cookers and what is desirable go to missvickie.com (a non-commercial site devoted to pressure cooker enthusiasts.) Some of these features deal with safety, e.g. you don't have to worry about plugging the steam escape with Fagor. Fagor cookers also reach a pressure of 15psi (which is important.) Unless a brand advertises that they do reach 15psi, assume that they don't. I suggest getting an extra gasket when you buy the item as you will need one at one point (they don't last forever). I must also compliment the company on its service. I bought this item, and sent in a rebate form (for a free stock pot). They sent me a nice paella pan by mistake. I was satisfied, however I called them to make sure that there was no mistake. They answered the phone right away (without the common maze of annoyingly slow and complex menu options.) The woman...

Love this cooker
I bought this set of pressure cookers over a year ago. It is the most used appliance I have ever owned. I have used it for chicken, roast, saurkraut and pork. Vegetables turn out great. It all turned out delicious. It does not burn things. The clear glass lid is an excellent addition to this set. Buy this set and you will love it. Pressure Perfect cookbook by Lorna Sass is a wonderful book full of useful information and great recipes.

Great time-saver!
I bought this pressure cooker set about a month ago and I love it. I had never used a pressure cooker before I bought this set, but I find it easy to use and very safe.

The set comes with a nice instruction book (with cooking times for lots of different food) and a small book of recipes. I like that I can cook brown rice in less time than it takes me to make white rice without a pressure cooker (about 20 minutes). I have successfully adapted a recipe for slow-roasted pulled pork to prepare it with sauce from scratch in less than an hour. As long as you're not looking for a crusty exterior, I think that you can make food of comperable quality as the oven or slow-cooker in a much shorter amount of time.

I find the two pots very convenient for making different quantities of food. With the glass lid, they work very well for other tasks such as steaming veggies briefly.

My only complaint about the set is that the insides of the pots are hard to get...

Pepper Mill Imports Atlas Salt Mill, Copper, 9"

Excellent, unique and well built.
I bought the matching Salt and Pepper mills because I was tired of their acrylic counterparts. These are solid and sturdy and the grinding action on the salt mill is smooth, easy and produces excellently uniform ground salt. I gave it 4 stars though, because these are copper plated, and while I have no problem with that, some consumers might find this omission in construction materials to be misleading.

Overall, this is an excellent product and I highly recommended it!

Not worth the money-poorly designed and made.
I already had the 9" copper pepper mill and it works great. I thought I would get the matching salt mill so I ordered this salt mill. I am very dissatisfied with this particular product. It does not work at all with Celtic sea salt. The working part of the mill is made of plastic and will not handle the sea salt that I use. The pepper mill is all metal grinding parts and works excellent. However, this salt mill is made of cheap parts and I am returning. Very disappointed.

Awesome Salt/Pepper Mills!
When I purchased this salt mill, I was a bit skeptical of the purchase because it's not often I run into a product that simply blows me away. In fact, it took me almost three weeks to decide if I wanted to buy this (and it's counterpart the brass pepper mill) simply because I wondered if I should get the larger 10" versions.

Well, six months down the road, the copper color has darkened almost to a brown (grease/moisture) and it's lustre is gorgeous. It's so easy to crank out the grains and gives you and adjustable grind if you like a slightly larger grind. It has ceramic grind gears fitting precisely in the bottom portion and it's so easy to load more product into them. I just use a large funnel and pour.

Honestly, if you are a epicurean such as I, definitely do NOT hesitate except to decide on which size is better for you. I've not looked back and I receive comments on how nice, and how different from other varieties of mills they are. The detail work in the...

Royal Albert Old Country Roses 3-Piece Tea Set

Highly recommended
I bought this primarily because I figured I could not go wrong at the price it was offered at. Amazon is selling this set for far cheaper than anyone else online. I was really very pleased when this product arrived today. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my Mother and she is going to be blown away. The tea pot is large, not overly, but it is certainly not a dainty piece. The cream and sugar pieces are lovely. Very high quality detailing, the gold is not gawdy. Comes very very well packaged. I am glad I bought some other pieces to match on a whim, hoping that the tea set would be beautiful. I received the matching tea cups and coffee pot. Also beautiful though the coffee pot did not come in its own packing box (it did arrive intact). If you are looking for a lovely piece of china that is proud to display but usable for company, I highly recommend this set.

Not from England
I bought a set recently and unfortunatley it is made in china. We have some older ones and they are much different

Excellent!
I had this set on my wish list for three years and I couldn't pass up the great price! It is amazing! Definitely more beautiful in person than in the picture. It's sad they don't manufacture in England anymore, but that doesn't disturb the fine quality that is Royal Albert!

This teacup has a beautiful design, but I was very disappointed when I received it. The cup and saucer were much thicker than I would have expected for a china teacup! It also had a problem with the scalloped design for the foot of the cup as this caused the cup to rock as it sat on the saucer. Good Value

Great set for a large group setting
Loved having this set where I can have one heating and the other in the basement where the group is that we are entertaining, run back up and swap them out.

low quality, high price
I don't have problem paying a little more for the quality, but one of the cups from the set that I order has a black dot inside the cup, it looks like there is a fly or a piece of dirt inside the cup. The bottom of the cups are scratchy and sharp. The set also come with a very low quality box ( I am very surprise to see that there is a sticker on the box say it was made in Japan because normally I though the japanese normally produce high quality products).
right after I order this set,I found a set sake set from a local liquor store for $ 25 and the quality is way better than this set I order in amazon.

Fagor 8-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker with Steamer Basket

Nice Design
I had a Kuhn Rikon and still have a Presto pressure cooker. I got rid of the Kuhn Rikon. I love the Fagor Duo. The Kuhn Rikon design is a real pain if you have an electric stove. It is probably almost acceptable if you have a gas stove. The Fagor models work equally well on either type stove. Also, along the same lines, the Fagor and the Presto designs are much more forgiving. You better plan on watching a Kuhn Rikon very closely -- especially on an electric stove -- but also on a gas range. It can get to an over pressure situation easily. Granted you will likely just blow out part of your gasket (the safety measure) if you get distracted. Who needs that? You better have an eagle eye and fast reactions to maintain a reasonably constant pressure inside your cooker with an electric stove.

You do lose some steam with a Fagor though typically much less than with a Presto model. (You lose nearly no vapor with a Kuhn Rikon -- that is about their only big selling point in my...

Quick, quiet and easy to use.
About eight years ago I purchased the Fagor Duo 8-quart pressure cooker and have loved using it since my purchase. The pan is made of heavy duty stainless steel which cooks evenly and foods come out tasting like they are supposed to. No off tastes just well prepared food.

Once the pressure cooker reaches pressurization the cooker quietly cooks a tasty meal in minutes. Once in awhile you may hear a slight hiss but that's about it.

And finally, I think Fagor uses a standardized gasket for almost all of their pressure cookers. You can check with Fagor to confirm this.

Another plus is the ability to rapidly depressurize the cooker by turning the the knob to steam release. No more taking the pressure cooker to the sink to run water over the pan to quickly release the pressure.

I've cooked pot roasts, porcupine meatballs, soups, stews, ribs, and even rice pudding in my Fagor pressure cooker. All turned out great!

Just Perfect!
I use to own an electric pressure cooker, and after many scorched meals, decided to try a stove-top model. It was the best move I could have made! 18/10 stainless, surrounding aluminum on the bottom has kept every meal scorch-free. I feel completely safe using this pressure cooker. It locks easily, and the dial indicating if the pot is at pressure and if it is at high or low pressure is fool-proof. There is nothing complicated about using this pressure cooker. I just can't say enough about this pot. I have cooked professionally, and I have cooked for many years. I would not be exaggerating if I told you that this is the best-loved piece of cookware that I own. Fagor has produced an outstanding product.

Lodge L Series E2OC30 Enameled Cast Iron Oval Casserole, Liberty Blue, 2-Quart

Attractive and useful casserole dish
Cast iron usually isn't my first choice of cookware for several reasons: it isn't non-stick; it's heavy (I have tendonitis in my hands); and it can't go in the dishwasher. Thankfully, Lodge's new enamel-coated line takes care of most of these issues!

I recently got my hands on one of their two-quart enamel-coated casserole dishes for review, in apple green. I love the wide, shallow design. After all, many casseroles wind up with browned, crusty toppings--which are the best part!--and this allows more of the casserole to come out that way. I also find this a little easier to lift, particularly because of the wide handles, although you definitely need both hands and I still let my husband move it in and out of the oven for the most part.

Two quarts is barely enough for most casseroles, I find; I usually prefer dishes that are two and a half quarts just because they allow a little more room for error and help to avoid spill-overs. However, I think most...

In all of its enameled glory...
I was very pleased to find this casserole/roasting dish on Amazon. I was even able to get it at a significant discount due to the color selection I went with (blue). It is a beautiful and highly functional dish. I have cooked casseroles, and medium sized roasts in this dish with near perfection. You can't beat it for the price, especially when compared to more high profile brands. And the quality of Lodge's enameled cast iron is just as solid as their regular cast iron cookware. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase!

Great Baking Dish!
I prefer cast iron for most of my cooking needs. This oval enameled casserole baking dish fits in to that and adds a splash of color as well! Cast iron is superior for distributing and holding heat so you don't have to use as much temp or time to accomplish the meal. Enameled cast iron is easy to maintain. Use wooden or plastic utensils and you won't scratch the finish. Washing by hand is preferred although you could put it in the dishwasher . Just wont stay as good looking as long. Very good serving dish for table due to its ability to stay extremely warm for a long period of time. Place on a trivet or good hot pad when on table or counter. Enjoy!

J.A. Henckels International Classic Forged Hollow-Edge Stainless-Steel 2-Piece Knife Set

Worth it!
Having been fascinated by all the hype over the hollow edge knives, I did my homework and picked this 2 knife set to try. After using these knives and in particular the 5" knife I understand what the rave is about. The control and shape of the knife allows for very precise cutting and slicing. From meat to vege's the 5" knife has a very light yet accurate feel. Being only 5" long the knife isn't meant for large items, but I have already ordered the 7" version. My wife uses the paring knife for almost all her light daily activites.

If you are a novice to better cutlery, Henckels makes very high quality items and in my opinion, is an excellent value. I already own a full set of Wusthoff and frankly am not sold on the brand. This 2 knife set, a 8" chefs knife, and perhaps the 7" hollow edge would be what I would pick to start a collection of good knives.

Henckels 2 piece knife set
I am so glad I bought this set. I thought about some more expensive knives, some recommended by "famous" chefs, but this set along with the bread knife are all I need in my kitchen. The handles are well balanced. Not too heavy, not too light. Everything about this set, IMHO, is just about perfect. They cut like thru butter, the handles are designed to fit into my hands just right. I really love them.

The favorite knives in my kitchen
We have mostly the traditional blade Wusthof classic forged knives in our kitchen, but we got this Henckels Santoku set as a gift about a year ago. Almost immediately they became our favorite knives. We find the larger one is the more useful if you're getting them separately.

Sunbeam/Oster breadmaker belt.

fix rather than replace
what a relief. our bread machine bit the dust last month and i thought i was going to have to replace it. i saw this replacement belt and decided to give it a try. i took the bottom pannel off of the bottom of the bread machine and low and behold the belt was worn out. it took about 10 days to get the replacement and about 15 minutes total to repair. i was making bread that night.

thanks

Looks nice, but not for all sunbeam breadmakers
Unlike what the dots in the list of models in the description might suggest, this does not fit Sunbeam 5891, the main model sold by amazon.

If you want this belt, you can get it directly from Goodman's for about 1/3 less overall.

Does not fit Sunbeam 5891
I will confirm what others have said, this belt is not for a Sunbeam 5891 breadmaker. It's not even close; wrong length, wrong width and wrong tooth pitch. It's been tagged in error. It is a good belt and I expect Oster breadmaker owners are happy with it, but you won't be if you're trying to fix your 5891.

Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 5-Quart Dutch Oven, Apple Green

Great buy
Beautiful color red. Have had it about 3-4 months and so far so good. It cooks evenly and cleans up nicely (I only hand wash). I highly recommend.

Gorgeous Cookware
I have both the 7-quart and 5-quart Dutch Ovens by Lodge and have been very happy with both. Besides being versatile and beautiful, they provide all of the benefits of heavy-duty iron cookware without the need for heavy-duty clean up. Best of all, the porcelain enamel surface is non-reactive something that was always a problem with the original cast iron cookware.

a must have
A wonderful dutch oven with a tight lid that keeps the food from drying out over extended cooking times. Heat speads evenly so there are no spots that can burn food. Easy to clean!

A SET OF Nikita Bistro 20 pc Forged Stainless Steel Flatware Set

RUSTED - Do Not Buy
This silverware was fine until the knives all developed significant rust spots when they came out of the dishwasher after two months of ordinary use. The return window is ONE month. Do not waste your money on this set of utensils - there's nothing 'stainless steel' about them and Amazon will not help you. I'm not about to let my family ingest rust so these are useless. What a rip-off.

I have been looking for this set for awhile now again
I bought this in 2001 when I got married, I seperated & ended up giving all of my stuff that was in storage away & there was my silverware that I loved............So was in Target today & couldn't belive my eyes but they had the brushed ones & didn't care for it but wanted to know the name of what they called it & hopped on Amazon sure enough they have it i'm ordering 2 boxes as i'm getting my own place soon & i'm pretty picky about my kitchen stuff so i'm very excited it's sturdy but not too heavy definetly don't like to buy flimsy stuff that will end up being replaced quickly after being used this is a set that I used for 7 years & was in perfect condition.

the better Bistro
My wife and I looked at a lot of flatware patterns, and the Bistro pattern really caught our eye. We looked at the Hampton Bistro first-hand, but the quality was poor--looked more scratched than brushed, kind of cheap. So we took our chances on this set, sight unseen. We love it. Has a very solid feel, and the forks have a nice width, and it's solid--as in, the prongs are quite rigid and unlikely to bend. This set is polished, not brushed. It's made from 18/0 stainless, meaning that it can spot; just wipe it down occasionally. Nice feel, good value for the money. The Bistro is a nice, classy design that just seems to fit any occasion.

Gold Crown Bottle Caps (1 gross, 144 caps)

Worked perfectly
This fits the amber bottles that I purchased just right. Great for preserving the flavor of the hubby's latest home brew.

Great if you want a scrap book.
I bought these caps in the hopes of using them to cap my recent batch of beer. What I ended up getting were caps that are nice and shiney but have no use on my bottles. I had to make a rushed trip around town to find bottles with the lever tops so my beer wouldn't be lost. They look just like the real thing but when it came down to putting them on my bottles and crimping them they don't hold up. out of 34 bottles of beer I used 67 caps, that's nearly twice what it should have been. The ones that did end up taking caps didn't hold the pressure of carbonation. They didn't explode but instead leaked so I had nearly flat beer in a few bottles. Moral of the story: Scrapbooking/Crafts a pretty good deal for nice looking caps, Home brewer: Highly not recommended.

they work
They are bottle caps and they function as expected, nothing fancy (I mean, they are bottle caps) but definitely functional. What else can I say....

Lodge L Series E2OC40 Enameled Cast Iron Oval Casserole, Patriot Red, 2-Quart

Elegance
I looked all over for a dish like this that would display the food I had made with a fancy flair. It is my most attractive oven pan that I own, and I am very pleased to have found it. It is quite heavy and well made.

Lodge Enamel Casserole
Well worth the price. Easily as good as the French model and so much less expensive. I made Julia Childs potatoes in this the day I got it and it was perfect for the job. Very heavy, attractive to look at and well...perfect. Do not hesitate to purchase Lodge cookware.

LODGE L SERIES 2 QUART CASSEROLE
This is the best pan I have EVER USED!!!!! I cannot wait for them to come out with a 9 x 12 rectangular pan...I cooked our Thanksgiving turkey breast in it and used McCormick's Rotisarie Spice-hard to find in Alabama and everyone agreed it was the best turkey they had ever eaten in their entire life. I've cooked chicken breast and a whole chicken and they were the best ever also. I'm trying pork chops next! I preheat my oven to 425 degrees and immediately turn down to 400 when I put in. After time is done I cut oven off and let sit in oven for about 10 minutes, take out and let sit for about 5 minutes or so. Just be careful not to use metal utensils, let cool down before washing by hand and dry immediately; do not let air dry (they say). It's worth the cost and the extra effort to take care of the pan; your food will taste better than you could ever imagine!

Lodge Enamel Cast-Iron 7-Quart Dutch Oven, Liberty Blue

Amazing piece of cookware.
This dutch oven is simply great. It's hefty, beautiful, and cooks like a dream. The handle is really neat, too. The quality of the pan is top-notch. It cooks well and cleans up with ease. (...)

The pan does appear to be made in China to Lodge's specifications. It's clearly a Lodge pan with their name engraved on the handles. It doesn't bother me in the least, but if that's something that bothers you than best of luck.

For me, I have found a pan that's going to be in my kitchen for the rest of my life.

Gives Le Creuset a run for it's money
I've always wanted a Le Creuset Dutch oven for a long time, but they are just too expensive. I like my Lodge cast iron pan a lot so I decided give their enamel Dutch oven a shot. I was impressed the moment I opened the box. It looks and feels like a Le Creuset. I have used it for 2 slow-cooking dishes and it performed flawlessly. Nothing stuck to the inside or outside of the oven. When wearing oven mitts, I also like the handle more than that of Le Creuset.

"Love that Lodge"
Purchased the 7 quart model some months ago. Used it the day after it arrived. I noticed the pot had a hump in the center of the bottom. The high spot caused a hot spot and lent itself to burning no matter what I tried. I fired off an Email to Lodge, and explained my problem. Their reply was immediate, and said they would supply a UPS mailer so I could return it. (Glad I saved the original carton.) I had no problem with their customer service. My replacement came two weeks later, and this one had a flat bottom. After using it numerous times I've become a "Lodge Fan" I gave it 3 stars based on their quality control. Not on the pot's performance or their customer service which was superb. My inconvenience, and the cost of the replacement could have been avoided if quality assurance had been better. Especially when spending $[...] for this item or any tem of theirs for that matter.

Fagor Splendid 2-in-1 5 Piece Pressure Cooker Set

Fagor Splendid advantages and disadvantages
.....I am a longtime cook, skilled with old aluminum Presto pressure cookers. I received the Fagor Splendid 2-in-1 cooker as a requested gift about 3 years ago. My biggest complaint after a couple years of use was the fancy V-cross-section gasket, which stopped sealing properly after about a year of use, and is pricey to replace. 2009 update: Fagor has switched to a much longer lasting grey gasket (the early ones were turquoise) that seals better. I bought one a couple of years ago and it is still going strong.
.....I hardly use the shallower pan from this set, but the deep pan is wonderfully useful. It's stainless steel, not aluminum, so I don't worry about aluminum getting into the food. It's got a nice heavy bottom, and so is good for deepfrying and popping popcorn as well as pressure cooking. The tall capacity is nice, I can parboil a whole chicken before roasting it, without clogging the vent.
.....The complex safety features are kinda tricky to wash, but this is...

Works great, even for beginners
This is my first pressure cooker and it works just fine. I had read a million reviews before finally purchasing one and was a little nervous about all the details and such but I didn't need to be. This is pretty idiot-proof...just put in the food and water, twist on the top, flip the lock and you're good to go!

Sure, you do need to check the steam output and lower the heat once it really starts going, but I have found that the worst thing that happens if you don't is that you get a little bit of stuff on the top of the pan as the steam rushes out really fast...nothing you can't just clean off.

Also, despite the manual saying to not put in dishwasher, I always do (aside from the gasket) and have had no probs after 4 months.

Ideal sizes, saves more time than energy
I'm very happy with my pressure cookers, purchased a few months ago. I agonized over whether to purchase the 4 quart or 6 quart model, as I wanted both to be able to cook small amounts (e.g. 2 cups of rice) for small meals and larger amounts for dinner parties. This combination set is perfect, as it allows me to do both, without buying two lids and gaskets, and for considerably less than the cost of buying the two separately. I've made batches of beans and grains in the 4-quart pot, and a variety of soups in the 6 quart pot. It's also been great for cooking winter squash in just a few minutes.
The pressure cooker is easy to use and easy to clean (& I'm new to pressure cooking), and thus far the gasket has sealed with relative ease. The steaming basket and flimsy trivet aren't ideal, but this is a minor complaint.
I had hoped to save on my energy bill by pressure cooking - since food cooks in a fraction of the time, it should only use a fraction of the electricity /...

Shun Steel 9-Inch Slicing Knife

Excellent Slicing Knife
If you are shopping for a Shun, I assume you are already familiar with their reputation for razor-sharp edges, so I will address this knife itself.

This slicing knife is a great addition to your set. I recently used it to carve up some beef roasts and I was able to carve paper-thin slices. I didn't experience too much sticking either, this may be due to the Damascus-style pattern that creates micro air-pockets. Therefore, I think this version without the scallops will do just fine.

The knife has a good length that's great for most roasts, a tip that makes it easy to maneuver and a sturdy construction that feels balanced and comfortable. The handle is sturdy and has a slight matte finish that keeps it from being too slippery.

On another note, I have seen this knife advertised on Amazon for about $60 (which is the price I bought it for). It was first listed at $110, then went down to $60, and now as of writing this review it is back up to $110. I am...

Shun quality at a very reasonable price
Perhaps not as good looking as the paka wood classic version, this knife is nevertheless a superb slicer -just what you'd expect from the first rate Shun knife manufacturers.

Outstanding Carving Knife
I own other "Shun's"- as always a world class knife-while more expensive than some- you can't find a better knife

Shun Steel 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife

Great Paring Knife
This is a GREAT paring knife. Like all Shuns, it's razor sharp. It's also comfortable in your hand and just the right size for intricate cutting jobs. The handle is hollow, but still has the right amount of weight/balance. I've really enjoyed using it in my kitchen.

The Best!
My nephew requested this knife as a wedding gift. He eats a lot of vegetables and is in love with this knife -- sharp and just the right size!

best knives
The Shun knives are absolutely the best that I own and I have other good brands. These knives come out of the box scary sharp, so be careful.

Shun Classic 7-Piece Block Set with Bamboo Block

High quality at a reasonable price
This set is wonderful in that it includes everything you really need in a cutlery set. Most of the commercial stamped sets include upwards of twenty knives, but you'll end up using five or six on a regular basis. The quality of these forged blades is stunning and the edges are razor sharp. With proper honing, using the steel included in the set, these blades will keep their edge for over a year of daily use. I would recommend finding a local bladesmith and having the edge sharpened professionally. It isn't expensive and will maximize performance.

The handle itself is comfortable and the balance feels natural. Although the manufacturer says that these are dishwasher safe, I would suggest immediate hand washing after use and complete drying before returning it to the block.

Beautiful and sharp, but not practical...
Allow me to elaborate on the title of my review; couldn't wait for this set to arrive (came pretty quick). I had to go all out with dinner that night and had nothing but praise for my new set of super-cool knives, with their resplendent blades and exotic wood handles. Flash forward a couple weeks... while quartering a chicken for dinner that night, I was horrified to discover a chip in the blade edge; not a little chip, but a

Shun Classic 6-Piece Knife Set with Bamboo Block

Shun Knives are Beautiful, Elegant, and the Sharpest around
The only thing this set is missing is a Serrated Blade. I have the Shun Serrated 9" Bread Knife and although it's not used as often as my Chef's Knife and Paring Knife, it's still essential to have a good serrated blade for cutting bread and the like.

Shun knives are beautiful creations period. Since I'm Asian, I love the tradition look and feel of this Japanese knife. I love the beauty of the blade and the dark, polished, Pakkawood handle. The unique "D"-shaped, Wood handles are preferable. The shape fits my hand perfectly, and the wood does not get slippery when wet - providing a very secure hold. The steel is of utmost quality and sharpness. Do not put this blade into any old electric knife sharpener! Electric knife sharpeners are made to put one angle on any blade. These blades come with a 16 degree angle and you don't want to be changing that angle. There are electric knife sharpeners that can sharpen these knives, but you'll have to do some research and find out...

Nice Knives for Smaller Hands
I bought this set for my significant other at Christmas. I looked around at Wusthof, Global, and a few others but liked the unique look and feel of these better. I also figured these would be more comfortable and easier to wield for a female. The end result is that she really enjoys them. Although she has fairly large hands for a woman, the handles fit her nicely.

The knives come very sharp and hold their edge for a long time. It will be interesting to see how well they take to a professional sharpening. Overall, I am happy that I purchased this set.

There is one caveat. I also do quite a bit of cooking and have large hands. After using the Shuns for a couple of months, I have come to the conclusion that the Wusthof Grand Prixs fit me better and feel sturdier. I cannot really justify having two sets of expensive knives around the house, so we will be keeping the Shuns. My advice: Go to Sur La Table or Williams-Sonoma and handle the knives yourself...

excellent knives, no taskmaster shears, no logo on the block
The knives are excellent, as is usual for Shun knives. However, the bamboo block does NOT have the Shun logo (it is a plain bamboo block), and the shears are NOT the Shun Taskmaster Shears -no nutcracker, no bottle opener, no bone cutting indentations. In fact, I got the Shun Herb Shears DM7100 instead. My advice: get the knives, shears, and block separately so you get exactly what you want. The few dollars you "save" by ordering the combo are definitely not worth it.

Shun 11-Slot Bamboo Block

Perfect storage for your Japanese knives!
No one ends up with just a couple of good Japanese Kitchen knives. I had just bought several expensive knives and my old block just wouldn't fit the larger blades of the Japanese knives. This one was made for the wider knives. Mine holds a couple of gyutos, a Banno Bunka, Nakiri, 2 pettys, and I measured it and it will house my new Hiromoto Sujihiki slicer, the longest one.
I like the slanted angle and the arrangement of the slots makes for easy entry and removal without other knives gettng in the way.
Good price at about $60 as I believe it sold for about $90, although I dont think I would buy it at that price.
The best feature is that it will hold 4 WIDE CHEF type knives....most others don't
And the HORIZONTAL layout is easier on the blades...won't dull them.
The other one I have is vertical and the blade road cuts against the block when you withdraw the knife.

Block of Ages
As I slowly replace my old Sabatiers with new Shuns I sprung for their block. I've actually never owned a "knife block" before so I have nothing to compare this little bamboo beaut to but I am impressed by its ability to both sit on a counter and hold knives of different sizes all at the same time. Mine came with a discreet Shun logo on a brushed aluminum plate pressed onto the lovely bamboo. Some block!

Not worth the price, but what are your other options?
I first purchased a J.A. Henckels International 10-Slot Knife Storage Block from Amazon to hold my 4 Shun products: honing steel, 8'' chef's knife, 6'' chef's knife, and a 5 1/2 inch Santoku. Well, I was unpleasantly surprised when I found that I could not fit those three Shun knives because of the very small holes in the Henckels block. So, I reluctantly spent three times the price of the Henckel block and ordered the Shun 11-Slot Bamboo Block. The reason I give it only 3 stars is because I simply don't feel it is worth the price at which I paid, especially what it is valued at full retail. When you compare this quality to the quality of the actual Shun knives, it just doesn't fit in the same class. However what are my other options?

I have done research, and I think there may be a correlation between the use of magnetic strips with Shun knives, and their tendency to chip. So I decided a block was the best route. There are not a lot to choose from that will fit the wide...

Shun Classic 8-Inch Offset Bread Knife

I love it but that comes with its faults
This is a wonderful knife and it is one of my three primary prep and line knifes, however it has its draw backs.

Pros:
-Great steel
-Great look
-Holds an edge well
Cons:
-Almost too heavy, a little cumbersome
-Feels akward
-Not well balanced
-Hard to sharpen

I would recommend this knife but i would do so with caution because it take s some time to get use to the way it handles. Although most offset knifes take some time to get use too. I dont know what i would do with out it but it is out of love that i can point out its faults.

A knife that pleases all
This is an excellent knife and complements a number of other knives I have extremely well.

It cuts with a degree of precision that I have just not found with other bread knives (and I have used most of the well-known brands) which can sometimes be too flimsy and move around when cutting bread with a hard crust such as a good sour-dough loaf or they are too thick or become blunt too easily. Also being offset has distinct advantages particularly in not hitting your knuckles when slicing.

This knife is one of the workhorses in my cooking exploits and having a reliable knife that cuts consistently across many bread/cakes types is really helpful whether it is a hard crust loaf as mentioned above or it is a cake I am slicing horizontally to fill with fresh cream and fruit this knife is always a delight to use.

Even my wife who is not particularly interested in knifes and cooking loves to use this knife and have said on more than one occasion that this is the...

Elegance and Efficiency
This knife is an excellent tool. It looks stunning, and does exactly what it's supposed to. I've tried bread knives that aren't offset, and dislike them because your hand always hits the board before you've cut all the way through. With an offset knife this isn't a problem plus you can cut faster because you don't have to worry about your hand getting in the way. Shun makes excellent knives and this is no exception.

Shun DM2004B Classic 9-Piece Knife Set with Bamboo Block

Splendid Knives!
I recently purchased the Shun Classic 9-Piece Block Set with Bamboo Block and I realized that I have never owned a really good knife before, even though I have had some "name" brands. Slicing, cutting, chopping is effortless, like cutting through butter. The bamboo block is very attractive, however it is about 11" deep and with the projection of the knives up to 4" beyond that, it is a formidable presence on the counter. Overall, very happy to the point of euphoria!

The Sharpest Knives Ever
I was introduced to the Kershaw Shun Knives in a local kitchen store, but decided to purchase a set at a better price through Amazon. These knives are absolutely top quality and make cutting even very thin slices a joy. Because of my appreciation for the quality, I purchased two more knives as Christmas gifts for my son and daughter in law.

Absolutely fantastic!
Shun is, by far, the most reliable knife manufacturer I have come across. The sheer quality of the delivered product is astounding! I ordered the 9-piece Classic knife set with accompanying block and have never been more pleased with a set of knifes in my life. The blades are incredibly sharp and have little need for sharpening with the accompanying steel; the handles are shaped to fit your palm perfectly, and the design on the layered steel makes each knife unique and visually appealing.

I will be looking to add more Shun's to this set to fill out the empty spaces in the block!

Shun Steel 6-Inch Tomato Knife

Deceivingly sharp!
Besides Shun's normally great design, this is amazingly sharp. Doesn't feel so sharp because of the scalloped blade but it glides through grapefruit, simply a pleasure to use. It's replacing my Wustof tomato knife, it's a huge improvement over the Wustof. Be aware because of it's design, it's best suited for the right handed user.

Shun Steel 6 inch Tomato Knife
Nice knife. I bought it to compare to my Global slicer. BUT, lets face facts, for slicing tomatoes, any old serated two dollar special will suffice. Check out the Shun U2 for a superb all purpose slicer. Check out the Victorinox (R.H. Forschner) 4 1/2 inch Round Tip ,Wavy Edge @ $5.95. Best all purpose slicer/steak knife I own. Cutting up a Panini crisp sandwich with this is a joy. Another excelent slicer is the Shun Steel Nakiri. Gives paper thin slices of ham, roast beef, what ever.

A must have...
If you have the Shun Steel collection, you really need this knife.

No, it doesn't "seem" as sharp as the smooth edged knives, but put this knife on an orange, tomato or bread and you'll see a huge improvement (vs the smooth edged knives). Just give it a little sawing action and you'll think you're cutting a stick of soft butter.

Wait for it to go on sale!

Shun Steel 3-1/2-Inch Vegetable Knife

Great knife!
The Shun vegetable knife is comfortable and easily fits in your hand for paring and peeling. It has a very sharp blade, but the light, aerodynamic handle makes for precise cutting. The handle does take some getting used to--especially since other knife brands are heavier. Once you use a Shun, no other knife is close in caliber.

Shun DM0722 Classic 6-Inch Serrated Utility Knife

Better Than 5 Stars!!!!
Update 9/10/07: Before purchasing this knife separately, check out the Shun Classic U2 (Ultimate Utility) Knife. You may like it better.

I believe if you're serious about cooking, you should own great cookware and excellent knives. I finally stepped up and got excellent knives. For those who haven't heard the hype, Shun is one of the most respected knife brands in the world. Check them out on the Web at kershawknives.com.

Great features of the entire line include these cool "D" shaped handles that fit your hand better. Every Shun Classic knife is made in a right- and left-handed version (chefsresource.com for lefties). The steel used for the blades is harder than what you would find in most other knives. The knives are EXTREMELY sharp. One thing to note about Asian knives is that they must be sharpened at a different angle, 16-18 degrees vs. 20 degrees for German knives. The Shun steel takes the guesswork out of getting the angle correct because of the...

Great on tomatoes, great utility knife as well!
I bought this knife in January 2005, after lusting for one of the beautiful Shun knives for a long time. I was a little concerned about the D-shaped profile of the handle, because I'm left-handed, but have not had any problem with it. The edges are rounded and the difference between the flat side and the rounded one is not an intrusive sensation. That said, I'm not convinced there's any significant advantage to this shape, either.

I selected the tomato knife because it seemed like it would fill an unoccupied niche in our rather large collection of kitchen knives. This is a versatile knife that shouldn't be limited by its name - not only does it handle the ripest tomatoes well, but it's handy for cutting other soft, juicy fruits and vegetables or any other use for which a serrated blade is needed, and the size of the blade makes it an excellent utility knife. My husband and I use it regularly, and we both love it.

Respect your cutlery!
These Shun knives are sharp, they are very sharp.

Most of my cutlery set is made up of various Wusthof knives, I simply prefer the weight and heft of Wusthof with my most commonly 'used' knives. I decided to try something new and went with a 6 inch Shun Tomato Knife and was very please with my purchase. Though somewhat light in overall weight, the "D" shape handle design (I'm right handed) and blade sharpness have proven exceptional.

Libbey 16-Piece Swerve Glassware Set

Not Practical
When I bought these, it was more or less impulse justified by good reviews. The glasses definitely draw attention, and I've never had one break (despite me being quite clumsy with them). However, they're very impractical. I curse at them whenever I have to wash them. They don't fit into anything well: cupholders, dishwashers, shelves, anything. Although their design is unusual and aesthetically appealing, I've never really liked them when drinking from them. I much prefer drinking from my Mom's set of Mexican glasses or even plain glass jars. These might be fun if you have other 'regular' glasses, but I really wouldn't recommend them if they're going to be your only set.

Fun basic glassware
I ordered these glasses to have extra for a party. Fun shape drew compliments. I now shuffled them in to use as my everyday glasses (all matching!), but I do have concerns with cleaning the larger glass. With no dishwasher, I handwash everything and I find it hard to reach down into the recesses at the base of the tall curved glass. The smaller one is fine--my hand reaches.

Really nice glasses, and even better customer service
Hi... I purchased a set of these glasses, and they arrived quickly, but broken. After using amazon.com's return procedure, the vendor notified me that they would send me another set, no charge. I got the second set, all intact, just as fast. I got exactly what I wanted, and I'm glad to give the vendor a really good review. Thanks!

Libbey Geo Heavy Base Tumblers, Set of 16

Handle with care
Received these glasses from our wedding registry. We choose them because we have children and thought the heavy base would be best to prevent tip overs. During the first year we had been using these glasses, we broke all but 4 (and I'm not holding out hope they will last another 6 months). The glass only needs to be gently tipped over or knocked against another item in the dishwasher and it is cracked or broken.

Nice & Simple
I bought these glasses because they were inexpensive, while still appearing to be of good quality. A few years back, I bought an expensive set of 16 glasses at Pier One, and almost all of them are now broken because the glass was so thin. I know I'm jinxing myself, but so far, I've had this set for about 6 months and none have broken. They may not have the style of the expensive glasses, but they are much nicer quality, and WAY more affordable. I highly recommend these!

Fragile
I've broken two of these glasses in less than a month, most recently tonight when I picked up the larger glass full of milk and the entire bottom fell out. The glass I broke previously didn't take much effort either. Be careful with these glasses -- they may look like a substantial glass, but they're very delicate.
