Deceivingly sharp!
Besides Shun's normally great design, this is amazingly sharp. Doesn't feel so sharp because of the scalloped blade but it glides through grapefruit, simply a pleasure to use. It's replacing my Wustof tomato knife, it's a huge improvement over the Wustof. Be aware because of it's design, it's best suited for the right handed user.
Shun Steel 6 inch Tomato Knife
Nice knife. I bought it to compare to my Global slicer. BUT, lets face facts, for slicing tomatoes, any old serated two dollar special will suffice. Check out the Shun U2 for a superb all purpose slicer. Check out the Victorinox (R.H. Forschner) 4 1/2 inch Round Tip ,Wavy Edge @ $5.95. Best all purpose slicer/steak knife I own. Cutting up a Panini crisp sandwich with this is a joy. Another excelent slicer is the Shun Steel Nakiri. Gives paper thin slices of ham, roast beef, what ever.
A must have...
If you have the Shun Steel collection, you really need this knife.
No, it doesn't "seem" as sharp as the smooth edged knives, but put this knife on an orange, tomato or bread and you'll see a huge improvement (vs the smooth edged knives). Just give it a little sawing action and you'll think you're cutting a stick of soft butter.
Wait for it to go on sale!
