Lodge L Series E2OC30 Enameled Cast Iron Oval Casserole, Liberty Blue, 2-Quart

Attractive and useful casserole dish
Cast iron usually isn't my first choice of cookware for several reasons: it isn't non-stick; it's heavy (I have tendonitis in my hands); and it can't go in the dishwasher. Thankfully, Lodge's new enamel-coated line takes care of most of these issues!

I recently got my hands on one of their two-quart enamel-coated casserole dishes for review, in apple green. I love the wide, shallow design. After all, many casseroles wind up with browned, crusty toppings--which are the best part!--and this allows more of the casserole to come out that way. I also find this a little easier to lift, particularly because of the wide handles, although you definitely need both hands and I still let my husband move it in and out of the oven for the most part.

Two quarts is barely enough for most casseroles, I find; I usually prefer dishes that are two and a half quarts just because they allow a little more room for error and help to avoid spill-overs. However, I think most...

In all of its enameled glory...
I was very pleased to find this casserole/roasting dish on Amazon. I was even able to get it at a significant discount due to the color selection I went with (blue). It is a beautiful and highly functional dish. I have cooked casseroles, and medium sized roasts in this dish with near perfection. You can't beat it for the price, especially when compared to more high profile brands. And the quality of Lodge's enameled cast iron is just as solid as their regular cast iron cookware. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase!

Great Baking Dish!
I prefer cast iron for most of my cooking needs. This oval enameled casserole baking dish fits in to that and adds a splash of color as well! Cast iron is superior for distributing and holding heat so you don't have to use as much temp or time to accomplish the meal. Enameled cast iron is easy to maintain. Use wooden or plastic utensils and you won't scratch the finish. Washing by hand is preferred although you could put it in the dishwasher . Just wont stay as good looking as long. Very good serving dish for table due to its ability to stay extremely warm for a long period of time. Place on a trivet or good hot pad when on table or counter. Enjoy!
