not for all corks
This cork lifter is pretty effective until it is inserted into a very dense cork. Sometime is gets stuck in a synthetic cork and you have to pull it out, which is difficult. On my last attempt with a hard cork, I tried twisting AND pulling which caused the needle to come apart from the handle. Under normal circumstances, it is easier than a screw type opener. Its overall effectiveness, however, depends on the response of the cork.
Works better than tradational wine opener
This is an excellent tool for removing wine corks. I have used it over thirty times without any broken or damaged corks. I recommend this item to anyone wanting a dependable cork lifter that doesn't leave any cork residue. I have retired my cork screws!
Update:
I've opened over 100 bottles of wine with this cork lifter over the last several months without 'dropping' a single cork into the bottle. You must be careful handling the needle such that you don't stab yourself.
